One of my biggest struggles throughout the college application process was knowing where I stood. One day I wanted to apply to Harvard, and the next to schools I'd never even heard of. Throughout the process, Nick went beyond the role of a college counselor—he was a friend. He constantly reassured me that I could get into top institutions, and he was right! Without him, I absolutely would not have been able to get into my dream school.
What I particularly liked about Nick's approach to the college application process was that he is both efficient and creative. At every meeting, I would come to him with about ten colleges to go over—that's a 40-page document—and somehow, he got through it in an hour every single time, while still giving useful feedback.
Additionally, his feedback helped me bring my personal statement to the next level. The original draft I was going to submit was based on a metaphor—the advice he gave is something I still remember to this day: "If you can write the same plot without the metaphor, scrap it." After that, all of my essays—not just the personal statement—became so much more efficient and clear.
Throughout the entire college application process, Nick was simultaneously kind, flexible, and made the process fun. I strongly recommend that anyone reading this hire Nick Soper as their college counselor.

As a senior in high school, I applied to a few of my top choices for college and was disappointed to be waitlisted to almost all of them. I was applying blindly, without any real notion of how to create a successful application. I made the decision to take a gap year and apply again to my top choice, Northwestern, in the Early Decision pool. This time around, I worked with Nick as my mentor and learned invaluable insight into how to craft a cohesive application that let my personality and passions shine. With Nick's guidance, I submitted an application that I felt confident reflected my true capabilities and achievements, and our work together culminated in an acceptance to my dream school! I am extremely grateful to Nick for his input and support that undoubtedly changed the outcome of my application.

At the beginning of my college process, I was nervous and scared. I didn't know how to approach my application and was struggling to try to find ideas to write about. After meeting with Nick for the first time, I already felt like I was in a better place. With his guidance and support, I became confident in my writing and formulation of essay ideas. Having Nick by my side helped me in so many ways and I couldn't not be more appreciative and thankful for all of our sessions. I strongly recommend Nick for anyone looking for a strong supportive mentor and counselor. Thank you so much, Nick!

It's no secret that applying for college is a stressful process. I had so many questions to ask and so many deadlines to keep track of, as well as figuring out what the best path for my future was. That's where Nick came in. He understood all the worries running through my head, and helped me plan my approach to the entire process step by step. He provided many useful resources that I would've never know about, as well as providing his own input and wisdom, the most valuable resource of them all.
I went from not knowing where I wanted to go or what I wanted to study to confidently setting my sights on studying mechanical engineering and applying to a set list of colleges, each of which appealed to me for unique reasons which Nick illuminated. Throughout the application process, Nick was very accessible and encouraging. Sometimes I'd have a quick question and I'd send him a text, and he'd always respond efficiently, helping push me along the process even outside of our weekly meetings. Even when my college list was longer than he'd originally recommended, he didn't discourage me. He said that if I put in the work, he'd put in the work as well, and together we worked through all my applications, and even had time to add an extra!
With every application, Nick helped me present myself as the strongest applicant I could be. He'd inquire into my day to day life, and I'd share stories with him that would sometimes be the start of a new idea for an essay, which strengthened both my application and Nick's connection with me, allowing us to continue to work better and better together as time progressed. Thanks to Nick's guidance and support, I'll be attending one of my dream schools in the fall. He truly was an outstanding mentor for my application process.
Paola F., Culver City High School ‘24, University of California - San Diego ‘28
Nick's help during the college essay application process was invaluable. He helped me organize my ideas and spot values in aspects of my personality and everyday life which helped me to produce quality work that I was proud of. The time we spent together really helped me speak my ideas and catch details that I should or shouldn't include in my writing. I believe the quality of my essays made a difference in my acceptances and I'm forever grateful and appreciative of what Nick helped me accomplish.

Applying to college was a process that my parents and I felt was incredibly intimidating. I was unsure about the way I should present myself in my application, and both my parents and I were overwhelmed by the many steps in the application process. Nick helped me get through all of this uncertainty by presenting a very clear path in which I should begin work on my application, and also made many helpful suggestions during my brainstorming process. Nick helped me feel a lot more secure every step of the way, from crafting my college list, to finalizing my essays. I am incredibly grateful to have been able to get into one of my top picks, and I will always appreciate the support that Nick provided in helping me get here.
Jess B., Santa Monica High School ‘23, Duke University ‘27
Throughout my enduringly challenging and often bewildering college application process, Nick’s guidance was like my compass. Not only did Nick help me unscramble my thoughts, values and life goals into a cohesive set of applications that I felt proud of but also helped me grow as a writer. I am beyond grateful that I had Nick in my corner to keep me realistic yet still encouraging me to aim high in all of my endeavors. Now, I’m headed to my dream school and I couldn’t have done it without him.
Nick B., Fusion Academy ‘23, USC School of Cinematic Arts ‘27
I dreaded applying to college, and as time marched on and the summer of 11th grade came to an end, I knew I had to get to work. I found that Nick made a huge difference in how I felt about the application process. The security of knowing that my work was of the highest quality that I was capable of producing made things less intimidating, and gave me confidence when submitting each essay, writing prompt, and supplemental requirement. Nick was my mentor, colleague, and friend throughout. He fostered a comfortable and creative environment that allowed my best ideas to shine through, and helped contribute to my thoughts and ideas like a partner. Further, alongside all of the guidance, Nick provided the constant support that I, like most kids going through this daunting process, needed. Completing my college applications was an incredibly stressful time in my life. Knowing that Nick was in my corner to help keep me on track every step of the way turned out to be a crucial factor in my success. I can confidently say that I do not believe I would have gotten into my dream school and dream program without him. Thank you again, Nick!
Colin M., Agoura High School ‘23, Tulane University ‘27
When I first came to Nick, I told him that I had no idea what part of the country I wanted to go to, what size school I wanted, or what I wanted to study. I was later proven that Nick was the perfect college counselor for somebody like me. He took me through a series of personality tests and insightful conversations that allowed me to envision a college experience. He was instantly relatable and validated every college-related fear I had. He took me through the process I had been dreading one step at a time, making it both manageable and enjoyable. He helped me understand the value in my own experiences, and he gave me the confidence to brag about myself for application purposes. He was always very helpful and happy to answer any questions I had. It was an honor to work with Nick and I strongly recommend him for anyone looking for a stress-reduced way to apply to college.
Charles M., Beverly Hills High School ‘23, University of Michigan ‘27
My college application process was intense and stressful. As a prospective Bachelor of Music in Composition, I had to balance school grades, college essays, auditions, interviews, and a deluge of other moving parts. Throughout all this chaos, Nick provided a great sense of clarity. Regardless of how much I procrastinated the week before a lesson, Nick was able to help me progress and push onward. His assistance not only drastically improved my essays, but greatly heightened the level of my writing as a whole.
Michael F., Westlake High School ‘23, USC School of Cinematic Arts ‘27
I was nervous about applying to colleges. I remember it being a stressful time for both of my sisters, and I dreaded the day I would have to begin my first essay. It was a hectic time for me. I was taking on multiple jobs and AP classes and learning various instruments for a project I was working on. Nick helped calm my nerves during this time, and I can't thank him enough for that. He reassured me of my writing abilities while keeping me on track to meet deadlines. He gave me countless valuable pieces of advice during every one of our meetings, and he helped me understand what colleges expected for specific essays. Most importantly, Nick spent time getting to know me, which allowed him to assist me with all my writing, especially the personal essays. I can not recommend working with Nick enough to anyone about to apply to colleges. You will be more confident while writing, and the entire experience will be far more enjoyable.
Jack B., Fusion Academy ‘23, UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music ‘27
It's safe to say, I had no idea what to expect when applying to college. The essays, statements, and materials I needed to complete each application was overwhelming in number and different than anything I had ever done in school. "Call Nick" was the response my parents gave often when I was stuck not knowing what to write or how to write it. And I did call, often, and Nick was always there to help me. While he guided me to understand what each school was looking for, he stayed with me throughout the entire process. He did not just "tell" me what to do. He worked with me on ideas and structure and even the details down to sentences and paragraphs.
I applied to 11 schools (top universities such as UCLA, USC, NYU, etc.) and was only rejected by one. I never imagined I could do so well during one of the most competitive college application years in history. Making it even more miraculous was the fact that I was applying to majors in these schools that only accepted 30-40 students out of thousands.
While it was not an easy process, I can confidently say that I would not be where I am (committing to UCLA, my dream school) without Nick's help. He takes pride in his work and carved out time for me when I needed it most. He was a friend who cared about my goals and aspirations just as I did. Nick understood every step of the uncharted territory that is college applications. I truly can't thank him enough or recommend him more highly.
Owen M., Scotts Valley High School ‘23, American University ‘27
When I started my college application process, I frankly had no clue what I was doing. The labyrinthine applications system combined with deadlines, a general lack of understanding of the university system, and a rapidly increasing workload from school resulted in me reaching out to Nick for help. The resources at his disposal and insight he had made navigating the college system much more manageable. When it came to writing the copious amounts of essays required for my applications, his help proved invaluable. I had trouble speaking candidly about my experiences, so another pair of eyes over everything was extremely valuable. He has an uncanny knack for finding the perfect phrasing for whatever sentiment I was trying to convey. He was able to blend personal experience with information that colleges and universities wanted to hear to synthesize essays that were a cut above anything I ever would have been able to write alone. His candor was refreshing, providing me with direct feedback, insight I needed to hear, and setting realistic expectations and goals necessary for success while remaining unwaveringly supportive along the way. I cannot recommend working with Nick enough and can’t even begin to express the value of his help in my educational journey.
Nathan Y., Alameda High School ‘23, University of California - Irvine ‘27
I was first referred to Nick by a relative of mine. While at first I was reluctant to having outside help in my personal process of applying for colleges, especially at such an early time (before junior year), after meeting with him, my fear and nervousness of getting ready to apply for colleges began to turn into ease and preparedness. Nick’s writing coaching was my biggest savior when it came to fitting the stories of my life into words limits of 650, all the way down to 250. While I had many resources around me to ask advice for my PIQ’s and supplements, Nick was the only one who I could trust. Although I dreaded opening the file to see all the comments on my writing, slowly fixing each of them eventually led me to submitting all my applications with confidence. I cannot thank Nick enough for everything he has done for me, assisting me in my writing and being someone to always turn to whenever I had questions during this tough process. Time flew by so fast, and I’m excited to show him how far I’ll go in the coming years at UC Irvine.
Amani T., Calabasas High School ‘23, The George Washington University ‘27
I dreaded the beginning of my senior year–starting the daunting college applications was stressful. Nick was able to draw out a solid plan for all of my applications which significantly lowered my stress. His upbeat and easygoing attitude was enough to keep me motivated to finish my college applications. Throughout this process, Nick taught me not only to write killer essays but also taught me a lot about myself. Nick allows you to express your ideas and interests without judgment and guides you to translate them into concise and intriguing essays. His ideas, website, schedule, etc., are entirely tailored to you, which makes the process much more enjoyable and easy. I was able to fly through the process and even got into one of my top schools! Thank you so much for everything, Nick!
Brandon W, Santa Monica High School ‘22, Cornell University ‘26
Like many kids, I initially felt overwhelmed and intimidated by the college application process. However, when I met Nick, I felt an immediate connection and we got straight to work. His easy-going personality and sense of humor made him very easy to talk to, which made brainstorming essay ideas incredibly easy. It was clear to see how much care, reassurance, and individualized attention he gives to each student. Whether it was organizing ideas or creating a roadmap for all the essays and applications needed, Nick was always there to help. I am very appreciative of all the care and support he showed during the application process. I am incredibly happy I got to work with Nick and extremely grateful for all the help. Thank you, Nick!
Margaux J., Tamalpais High School ‘22, University of Michigan ‘26
Starting the college process, not only was I very stressed but I also felt very alone. Self-doubt was one of my main issues, yet, not only did Nick reassure me but he was also right next to me along the way which helped me feel more confident within myself. I've always thought I could independently do the work, but, truth be told, without Nick’s help, I wouldn't have been able to succeed. Nick helped me realize that I am a much better writer than I let on, that what I have to say is important and worth listening to. It was an honor being able to work with Nick and I see myself working with him again in the future.
Alex K., Calabasas High School ‘22, University of California - Berkeley ‘26
Applying to college can be a daunting task, with important deadlines to meet, essays to write, and a future to plan out. Combining this with the normal stress of school and life was overwhelming to attempt alone. Nick Soper was able to help me overcome all of these obstacles, focusing my attention on what I needed to get done, bringing out the best parts of myself to show to admissions, and helping me figure out what I wanted to focus on in college. Because of Nick's guidance and expertise, I was able to get into my top choice college, UC Berkeley. I would recommend Nick Soper to anyone hoping to uncomplicate their college admissions process.
David B., Edgemont High School ‘22, Wake Forest University ‘26
Going into the college essay writing process, I had virtually no ideas on what to write about for my college essays. Nick helped tremendously by getting ideas, thoughts, and memories out of me that I simply could not do myself. After our first session, I remember being mind-blown seeing how much we’d written about myself in just an hour. After getting these thoughts down, it was easy for us to turn them into essay form. Not only was Nick helpful with the essays but he was always there to answer specific questions throughout the extremely complex and confusing college process, and helped create a list of colleges right for me. One last important aspect I got out of our meetings was how organized our work was. Nick helped create documents with deadlines, essay prompts, and other information for every college. Nick overall made the process a lot smoother and easier than if I had been alone.
Tommy K., Carlsbad High School ‘22, Loyola Marymount School of Film and Television ‘26
Nick was an absolute necessity in my college application experience. On a large scale, it was as if he was born to perfect the creative side of the application process. He made suggestions on my essays with such careful consideration while letting the essays be completely my own work. As I was applying for film production, on top of many essays, I had to make short films and creative videos for the application. His insight into the story and art of my pieces was instrumental in my application and I could not have fine tuned my art that well without him. On a smaller scale, he was such a relief to the confusing chaos of college applications. College websites and processes can be quite vague and confuse applicants, but he was always quick to respond with the answer on little issues that would have otherwise worried my parents and I and negatively affected my applications. All in all, Nick was a blessing for college apps. Make no mistake, he did not write anything for me and made sure the application was completely my own work, but his insight and college application knowledge played a huge role in my success with getting into an amazing film school.
Sara A., Santa Monica High School ‘22, Princeton University ‘26
Writing was never my forte—prior to meeting Nick, I had never come to terms with my writing, feeling incomplete and unable to truly incorporate my personality into my essays. However, Nick was able to draw out my voice through my writing, all while eliminating the daunting impression towards college applications. Nick's humorous and acute, yet honest insights on my writing, accompanied by his full support in my success has truly allowed me to grow as a writer and build my confidence. I am forever thankful for his support, and I would not be where I am today without his help. THANK YOU NICK!
Aurelien C., Dubai College ‘22, Swarthmore College ‘26
As an international student based in Dubai, I wanted the experience and unique insight that would be provided by a US-based counsellor. Choosing Nick was the best decision I could have made as he turned an initially confusing and difficult process into something straightforward. He made sure to get to know me, and we formed an instant rapport, which I am unsure I would have had with other counsellors. His candid opinions ensured I did not make any poor decisions and I felt I could trust his judgement.
Without his advice, I would not have been able to formulate my ideas in an effective and concise way. His constant communication helped keep me motivated and focused on the task at hand. The CCP website was a key part of my productivity, due to its ease-of-use and the ability to find vast amounts of information on different colleges quickly. We also planned a schedule, with deadlines to complete essays, which were both achievable but also acted as a source of encouragement. Nick was also very flexible to have meetings when it worked for me, given the 11-hour time difference between us. I am sure that I would not be where I am today without Nick's help. Nick, thank you.
Callie O., Homeschooler ‘22, Pace University ‘26
Writing is one thing. Writing the story of your life that will accurately capture your unique personality and authentic voice in 650 words or less is another. But with Nick's guidance, I was able to craft a personal statement that I am truly proud of. Before I met Nick, I was overwhelmed by the entire process and I had so many preconceived notions of what a college essay "should" be. Those ideas quickly hit the cutting room floor as Nick challenged me to dig deep within myself and tell the story that was most meaningful to me. Our conversations provoked some of my most creative ideas and his writing prompts led to some deep, personal discoveries. We also laughed…a lot.
Aside from Nick's extensive knowledge of the college admission process, his expert writing and editing skills, and his easy-to-follow schedule and organization plan, what made the biggest impact on me was how much he truly cared. I always felt that he was in my corner, inspiring me to do my best work, and celebrating each breakthrough along the way. I couldn't wait to share every college acceptance with him because I knew he would be as happy as I was.
I can not recommend Nick highly enough to anyone about to get on the college admissions rollercoaster. He'll definitely make it a fun ride!
Alexander B., Santa Monica High School ‘21, University of California - Berkeley ‘25
I'm not sure how I would have kept my vision clear and momentum going without Nick's support. Entering the college process my ideas were vague, and Nick helped me hone in on the colleges that were best fit for me. The CCP website is easy to navigate and holds all of your login info in one place which is essential throughout the college application process. Nick made the transition from ideas in my mind to words one the paper far less painful than it would have been on my own. Nick is really fun to work with and I always looked forward to our time together. I'm confident that I will keep in touch with Nick past the application process and would recommend Nick to anyone.
Satya A., Le Lycee Français de Los Angeles ‘21, Georgetown’s Walsh School of Foreign Service ‘25
What stands out the most about Nick is his immediate ability to make you feel comfortable talking to him which I think is so important in a college counselor. He became more than a college counselor but a sort of mentor and even therapist at times. As a result, he is able to help you express ideas and notions that either would never have occurred to you or you had no idea how to put into words. This paired with the week by week timeline for the application process helps alleviate the stress as much as possible. Whenever I did feel stressed or needed more time to finish an essay, he amended the plan and gave me any extra help I needed. I am so grateful for all his help because I genuinely don't know if I would have been able to balance this process and writing meaningful essays I could actually be proud of without him.
Daniel K., De Toledo High School ‘21, University of Southern California ‘25
Before I met with Nick I was unsure on how to approach the college process. He took the few schools I had seen and loved and not only guided me as a mentor, but a friend in the college search process. My interests became his priorities and he worked tirelessly as my ally, who wanted only the best for me throughout the process. I could not have imagined attending a school of this caliber without his help. From essays to the SAT to being another familiar face I got the pleasure of getting to know, Nick was instrumental in the college process, but most of all, Nick was a constant joy that mitigated the stress of what could have been a much more difficult journey had he not been there for me.
Grant J., Apex Learning Virtual School ‘21, University of California - Los Angeles ‘25
The greatest teachers are the ones that bring you to working as hard as you can while making it feel like it was your idea. I traveled to Arizona to take the SAT, thinking that I was pushing myself through the tremendous effort, but the reality is that Nick had tactfully created a perspective that made the 14-hour round trip and 5 hours of testing feel like something I really wanted to do, not once, but three separate times. I had never worked as hard as I had with Nick, and only after I had submitted my applications did I realize just how much time we spent working together, building a friendship that will last so much longer than my college experience. Throughout all of our time together, Nick truly brought out the best in me as a person.
Victoria S., Le Lycee Français de Los Angeles ‘21, University of Michigan ‘25
A great deal of the anxiety and self doubt that comes with the college admissions process could be alleviated with Nick's help in my opinion. He is extremely easy to talk to, which makes brainstorming essay topics a very fluid process. His help is so personalized to your wants and needs it makes every decision much easier to make. Every part of his help is specific to you, and you always feel like a priority. When it comes to scary deadlines and final drafts he is a source of constant reassurance and help. His methods are extremely malleable to you and your needs, and will easily get you to where you want to be. I couldn't imagine applying any better way.
Noah G., LACES ‘21, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo ‘25
Not only was working with Nick super easy, it was super fun as well. From the moment that he and I first sat down to talk, I could tell that even though the process was going to be a lot of work, it wasn’t going to be difficult thanks to the help, guidance, and advice that Nick was able to provide. Thanks to him, I was able to navigate what was at first a very intimidating process. Through working with Nick, I was able to stay true to myself the whole way through, and as a result, apply to the colleges and major that I knew were right for me. Whether it was helping me with my essays or just a simple check-in, I know that work I did with Nick put me in a far better position than I would be in if I had worked with someone different. I truly can’t thank him enough for all of the help and expertise he was able to provide. Thanks again, Nick!
Aleah H., The Geffen School ‘21, Wesleyan University ‘25
I am grateful I had the opportunity to work with Nick during my college application process. He immediately made me feel comfortable and motivated my creativity. He quickly understood my vision and worked hard to help achieve my goals. With his guidance, I was able to submit a strong essay. And I was accepted by my dream school for ED1. Thank you so much Nick!
Charlie W., LACES ‘21, Case Western University ‘25
When I met Nick I was completely overwhelmed with the entire college process. Nick could see that and helped me move forward at the pace that was right for me. I never thought I would say this; but I actually enjoyed aspects of the process and how it enabled me to better understand myself. Nick was a really big part of that.
Colin W., Santa Monica High School ‘20, Cornell University ‘24
To say that working with Nick made the college application process simple and straightforward would be quite the understatement. Largely stress free, there wasn't a moment in which I felt overwhelmed. From the very first day I felt as though I could tell him the ins and outs of my life story. Everything from his charismatic personality to his witty sense of humor made it incredibly easy and comfortable to open up. What's insane is how Nick was able to help create such personal and meaningful stories after having only met with me a handful of times. Many of the ideas I utilized would've never crossed my mind if it weren't for his expertise. My experience with Nick was incredibly joyous and smooth, and I am so grateful for his guidance and support.
Shea H., Hamilton High School ‘20, University of Southern California Trustee Merit Scholar ‘24
I have no idea how I would have made it through the college application process without Nick. Leading up to our first meeting, all the steps of the process were swimming around in my head. I had no idea where to begin. Nick helped me create schedules and outlines and I immediately felt like I had a handle on things. He knew how to draw the details and personality out of me, and helped me trust my voice. With him, the process was actually, dare I say, fun? I'm grateful for his guidance as I now get to attend my dream school! Thanks, Nick!
Joe M., Oaks Christian School ‘20, Dodge College at Chapman University ‘24
The college application process is a long and tedious one, but with Nick, it was straightforward and sometimes quite fun. When we worked it seemed like we were just having a conversation about life events and aspirations. His quick humor and vast knowledge of topics made it incredibly easy to open up. His teaching methods when it came to practice for the ACT allowed me to quickly understand the ins and outs of the test. Because of Nick, I've started to look at storytelling with a different lens. I don't think I could have done any of this with the depth and professionalism my applications had in the end without his help. Thank you, Nick.
Jonny R., Santa Monica High School ‘20, Haverford College ‘24
Nick was pretty much perfect for me for this process. He is fantastic at adjusting the pace and workload for individual needs, and extremely flexible. He is supportive every step of the way, and makes it difficult to get overwhelmed with how simple he makes things. Most importantly, he is funny, nice and a great guy who I will remember for his impact on me long after I graduate.
Dagny W., Pali High School ‘20, University of Michigan ‘24
The college process is stressful for every student, but Nick gave me the support and resources I needed to succeed. I couldn't have navigated applying to schools without him. Not only did Nick help me better my essays, but he also provided me with the emotional support throughout the process. Easy to talk to and down to earth, there is no doubt in mind that I could not have gotten into my top school with any other counselor.
Lily R., Santa Monica High School ‘20, University of California - Los Angeles ‘24
Going into the college process, I really had no idea how to start and how to properly structure my time. Nick made everything so easy by taking the time to help map out a schedule for me to follow throughout the process. Immediately, everything became simpler and less stressful. Nick helped me cultivate essay ideas, making sure that they fit each prompt. His help with my essays was invaluable; his suggestions were incredibly helpful and thought provoking, making my essays stronger. I am so happy that I worked with Nick because he truly made the process more manageable and efficient.
Carolyn K., Stratford High School ‘20, College of William & Mary ‘24
Going into the college application process, I felt overwhelmed and didn't know where to start. Once I started working with Nick, he immediately gave me a sense of direction and structure, and helped me step by step through the entire journey. He broke down every daunting task and made it simple and easy to handle. At the same time, he always made a point to ask about what had been going on in my life; this helped me open up and direct my work to find what I really want out of college. By the end of the process, I felt that I was talking to both a counselor and a friend.
Thank you, Nick, for all your help. I don't know how I would have done it without you!
Maggie B., Oaks Christian School ‘20, Texas Christian University ‘24
The entire process of drafting college essays was incredibly intimidating to me. Prior to meeting with Nick, the thought of getting multiple essays written within strict deadlines was very stressful. However, immediately after meeting Nick, so much of that stress subsided. He made the work of applications feel manageable through sorting and organizing my thoughts so that I could convey exactly what I wanted to say while providing an encouraging and supportive space to do so. With Nick's help, I was able to get all of my applications submitted on time and, in turn, enjoy the beginning of my senior year with the confidence that my college process was under control, all thanks to him. I am so grateful for all of Nick's help because it ultimately aided me in getting into my top choice college. I cannot thank him enough!
Kanan L., Santa Monica High School ‘20, University of California - Santa Cruz ‘24
Nick is an incredibly friendly individual and wants nothing more than his students' success. Working with him is only a positive experience, as he helps relieve any anxiety one has about the college process. At first, I was so overwhelmed, I didn't even know where to start. But once I started working with Nick, I felt at ease because I had an expert supporting me. I highly recommend him for anyone, considering how he helped me get acceptances to many of my top-choice schools. Thank you, Nick! Couldn't have done it without you.
Joey C., Santa Monica High School ‘19, Columbia University ‘23
Prior to the first meeting, I was always stressed about the daunting college application process. However, after our first meeting at the beginning of summer, I walked out of Nick’s office confident and ready to take on the process! We created a solid plan with attainable goals. He has helped me through every step of the way, from keeping me on top of deadlines to helping me cultivate all of my essays — especially my personal statement — and taking them to the next level. Nick's insightful advice and experience really pushed me as both a student and person.
I am so grateful that I had the opportunity to work with Nick. Thanks to his guidance, I will be attending my dream school, Columbia University next fall, and I couldn't have done it without him!
Pamela M., mother of Nia, Mira Costa High School ‘19, University of Southern California ‘23
Nick has a way of making high-stakes standardized testing feel like a race you can run and run well. Our daughter knew exactly how to approach the ACT, how to pace, prioritize, and use every strategy available to hit her target score. And guess what—she did it, and she's going to her first-choice university. Thanks, Nick!
Joseph K., Santa Monica High School ‘19, University of Pennsylvania ‘23
I wouldn't just call Nick a college counselor, I'd call him a mentor. Whether it was with college applications or just my life in general, Nick was always there to talk to me. I'm most certainly not the type of guy that opens up to everyone, but something about the setting I was in and the person I was facing made it really easy. He was so talented at helping me translate everything I was saying into writing, which in return made all my essays feel so personal and authentic. Overall, Nick made my application process a breeze and as less stressful as possible. Thank you, Nick!
Ben K., Santa Monica High School ‘19, UC Berkeley Mechanical Engineering ‘23
Nick was the ultimate mentor, therapist, listener, life guide, and college counselor all in one. His office was the comfortable, welcoming space I needed to lay out all my thoughts, experiences, and emotions on the table. In each and every paragraph, Nick truly understood what I sought to express and empowered me to illuminate who I truly am beyond what I knew possible. Nick’s strong intellect, insight, and experience guided me from putting ideas onto paper to constructing my compositions to editing every last detail — everything I needed to reach past my full potential and achieve my dream college. I am endlessly grateful!!!
Wesley M., Arlington High School ‘19, Georgetown University ‘23
Despite living thousands of miles away, Nick was always there to help me with whatever I needed. He was a pro at comma placement and sentence structure, of course, but what was more important to Nick was getting to know me as a person. He always knew what to say to get me thinking in just the right way to translate my thoughts from just ideas to words on paper. Thanks to his advice, I was able to turn clinical, impersonal first drafts into my most personal and thoughtful work. Never content to merely say "good enough," Nick gave me new insight into who I am as a person, and gave me the tools to show that to my dream school.
Patrick M., John Marshall High School ‘19, Tufts University ‘23
Working with Nick the second half of high school took a big burden off me. Whether in the form of essay help, ACT tutoring, or just someone to ask simple questions to, his help made me feel a lot more confident throughout the college application process. Starting with him in my junior year meant that he helped to craft a list of potentially interesting schools for me, plan trips for tours, narrow down the list, and actually work on the individual applications.
His relaxed demeanor made the whole process just a bit less stressful and helped to make me feel as if I was making progress towards a more tangible goal. With his help I was accepted into Tufts University for early decision, where I will be attending next fall.
Ellie S., Pali High School ‘19, University of California - Davis ‘23
Before working with Nick, I was very intimidated by the entire college application process. I had no idea about how to write my essays and only a handful of schools in mind, leaving me with little confidence. Nick not only assisted me in crafting my essays to the very last detail, from brainstorming to final touches, but was so thoughtful in recommending schools that matched who I was and what I valued. I wholeheartedly trusted his guidance, as several brainstorming sessions allowed him to get to know me. His questions were so keen to lead me on to big ideas and a deeper understanding of who I am.
I am endlessly grateful for the careful patience and effort Nick put into helping me maximize the potential of my ideas in an essay. I'm so confident in the work I was able to do with Nick's support and could not have made it to Davis without him!
Saba M., Calabasas High School ‘19, Chapman University Provost Scholar ‘23
Applying to college can be a stressful time; I’d had constant writer's block and really struggled to write an essay that would represent who I am while also fitting a prompt. Nick told me to completely disregard the prompts and helped me brainstorm ideas by asking me basic questions that you'd ask a new friend, just to get a sense of who I am. He then helped me organize my thoughts and guided me on how to develop my essays from there. Nick was very comforting to talk to and helped me calm down whenever I was anxious about college.
Ultimately, he helped me create essays that really represent my voice, who I am as a person, and what I believe in. I am so proud of everything I have written, and I would not be as confident about my applications if it wasn't for his help!
Ana T., Elon University '19, Emory University Doctor of Physical Therapy '22
Not only did Nick help me get into my dream college, but four years later I am graduating and going to one of the top schools in the county, Emory University, to get my doctorate in physical therapy, all thanks to Nick. As I was a dancer all my life, Nick led me to finding colleges with dance programs, helped me with audition videos, essays, the ACT, and the whole college application process in general. Anything I had a question with, he knew the answer and made the whole process so much smoother. This past summer, he also helped me with graduate school applications my GRE scores, which enabled me to get into the top programs in the country for physical therapy. I literally couldn't have done any of this without Nick. For the last six years, Nick has been by my side through everything and I am so grateful.
Myra R., Culver City High School ‘19, Loyola Marymount University ‘23
I was always skeptical about how my future would look like in terms of college. The thought of applying frightened me. I've been seeing Nick for two years and he has helped tremendously. Nick would go above and beyond to keep me focused and excited about finding the best college for me based on my interests and aspirations. I was always intrigued by Loyola Marymount University, which turned into my dream school. I was a little below average in terms of LMU’s standards, so Nick gave me resources to figure out what colleges were asking for, helped me write a personal statement that captured me perfectly, and provided incredibly helpful tips as to how I could best present myself in my college application. Thanks to Nick, I got accepted into LMU and I am so incredibly grateful for his help. I'm so excited to start this coming fall, thanks to Nick. He really made my dreams into a reality.

Nick Soper is a highly professional, skilled and intelligent college counsellor. After taking the time to understand my educational goals and strengths, Nick was able to direct me to the perfect program and help me move smoothly through the application process. Nick's consultations were always personal, honest, supportive and timely. I would wholeheartedly recommend Nick to anyone seeking guidance in their educational journey. I felt very lucky to have Nick in my corner.
Lily G., Windward School ‘19, University of Colorado - Boulder ‘23
Before I started, I didn't even have an idea of what I wanted to write about, but Nick helped me put my scattered thoughts onto paper, and eventually, into a readable essay that I felt reflected who I am as a person and I felt genuinely proud of. Nick goes above and beyond to help each kid in the college process and that's what makes him such a great counselor.
TREVOR S., PALISADES CHARTER HIGH SCHOOL ‘18, NYU INSTITUTE OF FILM & TELEVISION ‘22
Nick is a college wizard, creative writer, and, oddly, a therapist. Not an awkward, obviously paid "yes-man" type of therapist, but one that you open up to and discover inner truths about yourself—making for wonderful essays. But Nick doesn't hold your hand; he makes sure you write it yourself first to capture your own creative flair, and then coaches you through restructuring and making the piece as coherent and interesting as possible. I can't thank Nick enough for helping me get into my top school, but ultimately, he taught me a skill even more valuable, that I'll use for the rest of my life: how to properly write about myself.
DARRELL & FRANCINE, PARENTS OF KENDALL L., MARLBOROUGH SCHOOL '18, CORNELL UNIVERSITY ‘22
Nick's SAT and ACT tutoring services have been excellent for both of our daughters. In 2016, Nick's expertise helped our daughter, Sydney, raise her already strong score by 120 points! During the Early Decision process, Sydney was admitted to Duke University where she is now a sophomore in Spring 2018. In 2017, we returned to Nick to tutor our daughter, Kendall, for the ACT, and he helped her achieve a score above 30, which was her goal. Kendall was admitted to Cornell University during the Early Decision process and will be a Freshman in the Fall 2018. Nick Soper is one of the very best SAT and ACT tutors in Los Angeles. Thank you, Nick!
Nick K., Calabasas High School ‘18, UCLA ‘22
I am so grateful for how much Nick helped me through the college process. I came in with a good ACT score and good essay topics, but he help make them both outstanding. By our second meeting, it felt as though Nick had known me for my entire life. His calm and cool personality made him approachable and fun to work with.
For my essays, Nick was spectacular at helping me get my personality and message across to the reader. His extensive knowledge about different applications and admissions processes made him extremely adept at helping me write to my different audiences.
Without Nick's help I do not think I would have gotten into all my top choice colleges that I applied to. I always felt enthusiastic to go meet with Nick, and I wanted to stay past my allotted appointment time just to talk. I can't thank Nick enough for making the college process go so smoothly and for helping me get accepted to my dream school.
KENDALL W., OAKS CHRISTIAN SCHOOL, ‘18 UC Boulder (Honors Program) ‘22
My college application process would have been extremely difficult without Nick. Whether for ACT prep or college applications, he prepared me for everything that could be thrown at me during junior and senior year. He kept timelines throughout the process and helped me choose deadlines that would keep my stress under control. To lessen the pressure during senior year, he also made sure that I stayed on pace to turn in applications way before their deadlines, so that I could relax over break. In addition to working with me as a student, Nick really took interest in my life and found out who I was as a person. Then, in our work together, he helped me to develop 'my story' and portray that in the applications. My college application journey was smooth and fun, rather than a daunting experience! I am so grateful that I was able to work with Nick!
-Yuxin Z., West Ranch High School ‘18, UC Berkeley ‘22
I recently received the news that I was accepted to UC Berkeley after working with Nick through my college application process. I am an extremely shy person, but somehow Nick made me feel very comfortable and in addition to his fantastic advice, he gave me the confidence I needed to share my story. His experience, knowledge, and humanity made the college application process much less stressful and I learned a lot more about myself through his guidance.
Emily G., Santa Monica High School ‘18, Bucknell University ‘22
When I came to Nick, I was starting the first semester of my senior year. Prior to this, I thought I had everything under control, until I began writing my personal statement. I had essays drafted, but I was not confident that they conveyed all of my ideas the way I wanted. Nick helped me put into words everything that I was struggling to do on my own. He knows exactly how to synthesize the writing, without judgment. His process of brainstorming and drafting makes the whole college process bearable and actually exciting. Nick coaches writing in a way that enables the student to take the lead, while he helps to refine ideas and the language to express them. I learned a lot about myself in the process. As the student, if you put in the work, you will definitely see the results. I strongly recommend Nick as a writing coach.
Anya P., Santa Monica High School ‘17, Yale University ‘21
First as my SAT tutor, then as my college counselor, Nick has been part of my life for about two years now. From start to end was always there to answer any and all questions about the college application process. He kept me on top of my deadlines and proofread all my drafts for all the written parts of my application. Nick really took the time to get to know me as a person, not just as a student, and when I wanted to take an unconventional route for my personal statement, he encouraged me to trust in my own ideas and believed in my conviction.
Thanks to Nick's help and guidance, I will be attending Yale University, my top choice school, in Fall 2017!
Finn G., St. Paul's School ‘17, NYU Clive Davis Institute Of Recorded Music ‘21
I cannot thank Nick enough for the work we did together this fall! It took off an immense amount of pressure to have someone guiding me that was mellow, creative and could talk to me on my level. Nick was much more hands-on than the school counselor (who was extremely busy and couldn’t offer as much time or attention as Nick). I can't imagine how that would have worked without Nick.
As a creative type, it was so important to me to find someone who could balance the academics components with creative ones. Nick finds that balance.
We were always able to get things done without getting stressed out. We worked together flexibly, and even when I wasn't able to get something done, we'd just talk through it. I was really comfortable talking to him; it was therapeutic, even if what we were discussing was not directly going into the essay.
Most important of all, Nick always made sure the story I was telling was true to me, and he ensured that I was writing to tell my story rather than give them an answer I thought they would want to hear.
Jenny K., Santa Monica High School ‘17, University of Pennsylvania ‘21
From the moment I met Nick, I knew he'd make the college application process a breeze. He tries really hard to get to know you and what your strengths and weaknesses are so he can brainstorm colleges that relate specifically to what you want.
At every meeting, Nick takes notes so by the time you have to write your essays, everything is right there for you in your own words. He also takes his time to help you edit your work and make sure it's the best it can be. Nick made me feel confident about my application rather than nervous.
The best thing about Nick is that he helped take away the stress that applying to colleges can cause. He made sure that I turned in all my applications way before the deadlines.
I'm so glad I decided to work with Nick because he helped me apply to all my schools with ease.
Hadyn P., Palisades Charter High School ‘17, University of Michigan ‘21
Nick was way more personable and easy to talk with, to work through my ideas with, than other tutors and mentors I've had. He always asks the right questions to get me to think about things that wouldn't have occurred to me otherwise. I also really like the setting at his home office because it was comfortable and relaxed. This really helped to relieve the stress that otherwise can come with the hard work of college preparation.
Nick was especially helpful with ACT prep. He really helped me break down what I was doing and showed me how I could get a better score the next time.
Nick is great for people who have a certain degree of independence and a sense of time management—he gives just the right amount of space to allow us to take the initiative. I'm so grateful to have someone with me on this path to the colleges I really love.
JULIAN S., BEVERLY HILLS HIGH SCHOOL ‘17, UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ‘21
If you're like me, you thought that you could write essays without a college counselor. So I brought some of my essays to Nick, mostly to make sure I was putting commas in the right places. He looked at my favorite essay for one second and recounted exactly what was in the essay almost word for word. I asked him, "How did you do that? You didn't even read the essay." He told me that about 1 in 3 students write about a trip to a third world country in similar fashion, therefore boring their college admission officer and simultaneously squandering their chance at admission. If you want a college counselor who knows which essays interest admission officers, then Nick is the right guy for you. Secondly, when choosing a college counselor, it is imperative that they possess superb writing talent. Nick definitely has you covered in this department. Thirdly, in order to make great essays, you need a lot of time. The more time you spend perfecting/polishing your essays, the better they will be. Nick is amazing, but hard work is required on both ends. Nick encourages you to start early because great essays don’t appear out of thin air. Finally, Nick is a very welcoming presence, whether you meet him at his home or talk to him over Skype.
Nick’s kind words of wisdom and masterclass writing talent is the only thing between your application and the shredder. He's well worth the money. In fact, he's undervalued.
Rayna B., Santa Monica High School ‘17, Middlebury College ‘21
Before I met Nick, the only idea I had of college was from The Secret History. Besides daydreams, I was clueless. Nick shaped every part of my college process. After first working to get to know me, he gave mapped out a list of schools that fit what I was looking for and my interests. Together, we planned a college tour, prepared for the ACT, practiced free-writing and brainstormed in preparation for college apps, and finally helped me edit and rework those apps right up until they were sent off. I will be attending Middlebury College in Vermont this fall, one of Nick's recommendations. Besides his diligence during the college process, Nick is an extraordinary person, and one of the people who I admire most in the world. Nick has always understood me when I stammered through vague and confused descriptions of who I am and what I care about. He was able to guide me to the right word, the right phrase, to help me expand my abstract musings into larger, and more concrete declarations. I will be forever grateful for the process that I underwent with Nick, a process that has irrevocably changed who I am and how I think about myself.
Maya D., Santa Monica High School ‘17, University of Southern California ‘21
I came to Nick flustered, with only a vague idea of what I wanted to do and where I was interested in studying. Nick really encouraged me to get out of my comfort zone and do lots of research. This showed me that the "best schools" are the schools that are right for you personally. I was encouraged to stay true to myself, and to make that possible he had personality tests, free-writing and goal setting exercises. Nick was able to pinpoint aspects of my personality that are crucial to who I am and what I wanted to show colleges. Most people won't say this, but I really enjoyed the college application process. I learned so much about myself and what I need to do to accomplish my goals. Thanks, Nick!
Jamie S., Palisades Charter High School ‘17, Smith College ‘21
About a month before my early decision application was due, I came to Nick with my personal statement and a feeling of impending doom. At the very beginning of our time together, Nick told me to completely disregard any and all essay prompts— and suddenly that feeling vanished.
My first meeting with Nick was a simple “get to know you”: he asked me questions about myself and assigned me basic freewrites, where I would sit down and write about anything I wanted for twenty minutes. This process of getting out ideas was essential for me, because then the actual writing came naturally. Over the course of a few meetings, my personal statement formed on its own, my ideas and values weaving together beautifully to create a piece of writing that truly felt like an accurate representation of myself.
Nick’s approach to this process was incredibly flexible, liberating, and safe. I knew I would finish my personal statement and my supplements and meet my deadlines because of Nick. This feeling of security and assurance is crucial in a process with so much uncertainty. And I’m so proud to say that I will be attending my top choice, Smith College, in the fall.
Gayle Gilman, parent of Ella, Santa Monica High School ‘16
We had started working with a traditional college counselor that used a cookie cutter approach to the college process. She didn't seem to want to get to know my daughter and think about what might work for her talents, interests and abilities. We felt like we were wasting our time and money.
Then we heard Nick speak at a Santa Monica High School event and decided to set up a meeting. Immediately my daughter connected with him. He wanted to build a plan around her, not around a competitive, often mysterious and frustrating process.
After the first session, Nick helped her organize her thoughts, and they began to work together directly on the various assignments he was giving her. They came up with a list of schools and began to prepare for the application process. Nick was able to turn a potentially stressful situation into something that was actually fun for my daughter. She was researching and brainstorming and planning campus visits with enthusiasm. And the results speak for themselves. Ella's lists of schools were spot on. She was accepted at 11 of the 16 schools she applied to and will matriculate at Tulane in August. We couldn't be happier.
Sherrie Evans, parent of Brendan, LACHSA ’16
Attending a seminar that Nick presented at LACHSA was the best decision I made in helping my son navigate the college application process with a talent based emphasis. Having successfully ushered my 2 older children into college and graduate school, one with the use of an educational consultant and one without, I approached Nick's seminar somewhat skeptically. After one hour, my skepticism was cast aside and my enthusiasm mounted as I realized Nick had something very special to offer: credibility and competence!
Nick’s services are comprehensive but you can also choose an a la carte approach, which worked fabulously well for us. His writing expertise and background were of particular interest to me especially knowing that Brendan would have to write more than 15 essays during the process.
Nick proved to be the most valuable asset. Nick is calm, rational, professional, caring, supportive and extremely good at what he does. My best advice is to give yourself and your child the gift of working with Nick. I've worked with other consultants and Nick far surpassed them in every way.
Annabel Lassally, student, Harvard-Westlake Upper School ’16
Nick helped me most on science by teaching me how to dissect the passage and highlight key information, which made the questions so much easier. He tailored our sessions perfectly for me to focus on my weaknesses (like science) and not waste time on the stuff I was doing well on. After just a few sessions, I went from a 32 to 35 overall and from a 28 to 35 on science! Thank you, Nick
Darrell L,, parent of Sydney, class of ’16
My daughter, Sydney wanted a 100-point SAT score increase to strengthen her applications to highly selective colleges. This is a high bar when your school was recognized for having the 6th highest SAT scores in a 2012-14 national study. Nick Soper was recommended by an expert as "one of the very best" SAT Tutors in Los Angeles. After working with Nick, Sydney's strong score increased by another 120 points! Nick's expertise got the job done. I will definitely use Nick's services again. Sydney is excited about being admitted to Duke during the Early Decision process!
Casey Rowley, College and Career Counselor, Malibu High School
I met Nick Soper when I first came to Malibu High School. It didn't take long to realize that Nick would soon become a valuable asset to our school. As the only College Counselor for the entire high school, I rely on trusted counselors to volunteer their time and assist my students in workshops and evening presentations. Nick has provided everything from small workshops to leading a large group parent information session. He is constantly looking of ways to improve access to information for students and families and always reaching out to make impactful connections. I am grateful for his work and it is clear the students and parents are as well.
Michael Heeter, Co-Director of College Counseling, Marlborough School
Nick has been an extraordinary asset to our students. He has a concrete approach and clear strategies for tackling the ACT Science—which are hard to come by in the test prep world—and since he began teaching the ACT Science Booster at school in 2012, we've seen significant improvement in our girls' scores. Beyond that, Nick has been instrumental in his one-on-one work with students, helping bring up scores across all areas of the SAT and ACT, and move students through writer's block when it comes to college essays. Ultimately, he is our go-to guy for all things test prep because he never disappoints. To both families and colleagues, Nick comes highly recommended!
Ah Young Chi, Dean of College Admissions, Beverly Hills High School
I met Nick in 2009, and he immediately impressed me with his passion for helping students. He takes time to understand the big picture, and his counseling methods reflect this. When he makes recommendations to students, he always explains why his particular recommendations make sense. This allows students to take ownership of their work because there is meaning behind their actions. Nick is constantly growing professionally. With his background in creative outlets and his desire and practice to constantly learn, I feel at complete ease when he works with any of my students, no matter what schools or programs they are pursuing.
